There are two forms of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, BJJ Gi and No-Gi. Gi Jiu-Jitsu is grappling while using the traditional Gi and is a form that allows you to grab the clothing of your opponent. However, No-Gi BJJ is grappling without the traditional uniform and instead, practitioners would wear shorts and a rash guard. In No-Gi grappling you cannot grab your opponent’s clothing.
To become a complete BJJ fighter, it’s best for a person to train both forms. Training in a traditional Gi will make moves like escapes more difficult due to the added friction which means when transitioning from Gi to No-Gi training, you will gain many benefits as the same techniques will be less difficult.

No-Gi grappling practitioners will wear Rash Guards as they are designed to wick moisture away from the body and help the athlete stay cool and dry. Rash Guards are also typically made with flatlock stitching to increase the garments’ strength and minimizes discomfort/chafing.
BJJ Shorts also known as fight shorts, Vale Tudo shorts or MMA shorts are essential for No-Gi grappling. These shorts are designed to enable the fighter to execute movements and techniques of BJJ. They are beneficial as they do not slide off easily which is very important due to the amount of grabs, pulls and holds they will experience throughout their sessions. They also give the fighter a lot of flexibility, whether they are on the ground or for kicking if they are practising MMA. The shorts also don’t have any metal objects that can cause damage to training partners or opponents like buttons and zippers.
In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a common injury can be the swelling of joints, sprained fingers or knuckles or in worse scenarios, a full fracture due to constant pressure on our limbs. These types of injuries can be prevented by using BJJ finger tape. Using this piece of equipment is a simple and effective way of controlling the movement of your fingers that are damaged whilst still enabling you to have a strong grip, even if you are injury free.
Using tape on your fingers can make them more durable against twisting when practicing techniques like grappling and can save you a lot of time in pain. Apart from using BJJ finger tape, it is advisable that you should take some rest and heal your injury if your condition is very serious.
